I was so excited when Meg from Megs Marvels Photography was in need of a second photographer for her wedding at The Haven at Tomales in Tomales, California. I’ve admired her work for a while now so I was so excited to meet, shoot with and learn from Meg. Tomales is such a beautiful area and I never shot at The Haven at Tomales so I was extra excited for this wedding day.
This wedding day just happened to be the start of one of the biggest storms that the Bay Area had seen in a while so we were all braced and ready for the rain. When planning a wedding, the biggest thing that you can’t control is the weather so you always need to be prepared for the worst – Sarah and Fritz definitely made the most of it!
As the second photographer, I got to hang out with Fritz and the groomsmen while they got ready. Tomales is out in the middle of nowhere with no service. No one had any music downloaded to their phone except one groomsman who just had Vengaboys downloaded to his phone. It was so funny because they all just vibed to the same couple songs and played pool while Fritz wrote his vows. After Fritz finished his vows, we went outside to take some fun group photos while it was just sprinkling, before the rain got worse.
After Sarah was ready, she did a first look with her dad and it was so emotional and sweet – father/daughter moments get me every time. Then she headed outside where Fritz was waiting for her for their first look.
On a wedding day, us photographers are really out here doing the most to make sure you’re having the best day ever and making sure we capture all the moments for you. During the first look and group photos, Meg and I were out in the rain with me holding an umbrella over Meg’s head and cameras while everyone stayed nice and dry under the awning. It was actually quite comical.
Originally the ceremony was supposed to take place outside but they ended up moving inside the barn and they did an incredible job – it was perfect. The floral, the string lights, it was so stunning.
Despite the weather, it ended up being such a sweet, cozy wedding day and Sarah and Fritz were such great sports all day. You can either be mad about the things that you can’t control (like the weather) or go with the flow and make the best of it and have the best day ever!
