An intimate Yosemite National Park wedding

There’s something truly magical about waking up before sunrise in Yosemite National Park. The air is crisp, the world is quiet, and the granite walls of El Capitan glow as the first light hits. I had the absolute joy of associate shooting this Yosemite elopement for Nicola Leigh Photography back in 2021 — and it was one of those mornings I’ll never forget.

The couple chose Cathedral Beach, one of the most breathtaking ceremony spots in Yosemite Valley. We started early — I’m talking headlamp early — to make it in time for that golden sunrise light spilling over the cliffs. As the sun crept higher, they exchanged heartfelt vows in front of their closest family and friends with El Capitan towering above us. It was simple, emotional, and completely perfect.

After the ceremony, we celebrated with a few group photos and a relaxed breakfast picnic right there next to the beach — pastries, fruit, and coffee surrounded by pines and morning mist. Once their friends and family headed off, the three of us wandered around Yosemite Valley for portraits among the trees, meadows, and riverbanks, soaking up every bit of that quiet beauty.

When it was time to part ways, they spent the afternoon scootering and biking through the park with their people (such a fun idea, by the way!). I wandered over to Curry Village, grabbed a pizza, and sprawled out in a meadow watching climbers scale El Capitan — it honestly felt like the perfect intermission to such a peaceful day.

As the sun dipped lower, we met back up for golden hour portraits — soft light, mountain views, and that just-married glow. We wrapped the day with dinner at The Ahwahnee, Yosemite’s historic lodge that feels straight out of a storybook with its high timber ceilings and cozy candlelight.

From sunrise vows to starlit dinners, every moment of this Yosemite National Park wedding was pure magic.
