Spring is hands down my favorite time of year for engagement sessions in Sonoma County and this session with Mykenzie and Ian is the perfect example of why.
After the winter rains, the landscape completely transforms. The rolling hills turn deliciously lush and green, wildflowers begin to pop up and everything feels fresh, vibrant, and alive again. If you’ve ever dreamed of engagement photos that feel natural, romantic, and straight out of a countryside daydream, spring is it.
For their engagement session, Mykenzie and Ian chose North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park, tucked in the hills between Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park. This location is such a hidden gem — wide open trails, towering trees, golden-hour light filtering through the hills, and endless scenic overlooks that show off just how beautiful Sonoma County can be in the springtime.
One of my favorite things about this session was how intentional they were. They brought three outfits, each with a different vibe — from cozy and playful in the forest to elevated and romantic in the open hills. Outfit changes are one of the best ways to add variety to your engagement session and make your gallery feel full, dynamic and uniquely you.
And to end the shoot? They turned it into their version of a perfect date night: popcorn and red wine at sunset. Honestly, this might be one of my favorite engagement session ideas. It was relaxed, personal, and so authentically them. We wrapped up the evening sitting in the grass, watching the sun dip over the rolling Sonoma hills while they laughed, snacked, and soaked it all in.
If you’re planning an engagement session in Sonoma County and wondering when to schedule it, spring offers some of the most beautiful scenery of the entire year. Between the fresh greenery, mild temperatures, and golden sunsets, it’s an ideal season for couples who want their photos to feel natural, adventurous, and deeply connected to the landscape around them.
Mykenzie and Ian’s spring engagement session at North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park was pure magic — and a perfect reminder of why I’ll never stop loving springtime in wine country.
