Okay I just want to start by saying this is probably still one of my favorite proposal reactions ever.

Jake proposed to Samara last April at Donum Estate in Sonoma, California, and from start to finish, it was just so them. Thoughtful, fun, a little sneaky, and full of the kind of joy you literally cannot fake. And when I say sneaky… I mean Jake was taking our planning calls from the gym parking lot because they share locations. Like sir??? The commitment, the strategy – 10/10.

Jake chose the iconic heart sculpture at Donum Estate for the proposal spot, which already feels like a main character moment but but NOTHING could have prepared me for Samara’s reaction. The second she realized what was happening it was immediate shock, laughter, tears, hands over her face… just full-body joy. The kind of reaction you dream about capturing as a photographer.

And it didn’t stop there. As we drove around the property afterward, she kept pointing at the heart saying “THAT’S WHERE WE GOT ENGAGED!!!” Over. And over. And over again. Truly on cloud nine and it was the cutest thing ever.

After the proposal, we popped some bubbles, explored more of Donum Estate, and just let them soak it all in. Between the vineyards, the modern art, and that insane spring light – it was one of those sessions where everything just hits. Also… the ring was soooo pretty!

And now these two are getting married THIS weekend in Boston, which feels extra special because Samara is also a wedding planner (@samarajosephineevents). So I already know their day is going to be so intentional and so beautiful and I cannot wait to see everything she’s created come to life.
